Beginning in 2011 the Iowa Annual Conference will offer only health insurance option for active clergy. Offering just the “high deductible” plan will mean that the anticipated premium increase will be decreased by as much as 8 percent. (Currently a choice of either a “high deductible” plan or a PPO plan is available.)
The amount of a church apportionment fee for its clergy will be established and communicated in August. The family personal bill for clergy will be made know at the same time.
Retirees’ health insurance is currently subsidized at the rate of $100 per contract per month for each retired clergy person on a Medicare supplement plan. Beginning in July 2011 clergy who retire after that date will receive a subsidy of $100 per contract per month for the first 18 months and thereafter experience a $20 per month decrease annually until the subsidy reaches $0. At the moment there are two plans. Beginning in 2011 there will be many more choices to meet the needs.
Also, beginning in January 2011 churches will be eligible to receive a $15 per month cost reduction if they elect to pay health insurance premiums by electronic transfer rather than continuing with the direct bill/mailing a check manual method.
